| Happy Holidays everyone!
I've started work on Dreams Underfoot in The Wordwood. :) It's not done, but it's getting there. Anyone feel like setting up some pretty redirects for the akas for some of the characters? I'm on my second shift of work today (nothing like a double to get you working on personal endevours!), and am far too zombified to worry about that kind of coding.
Take care :) I hope everyone is well! | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Hey i am new here and well....i am a huge fan of Charles de lint. I was going through some books in the library and stumbled upon the "Dreams Underfoot" i got hooked on it after first couple of pages. And before this i was not in any way a fan of urban fantasy. Now i am reading the "Blue Girl" novel, and what can i tell you i love it too ^_^ | comments: Leave a comment |
| Hello, I joined this community recently because I am a -huge- De Lint fan. The first book of his I ever read was The Ivory and the Horn. This book was actually in the back of the closet in my fathers house. I had just moved in with him and was cleaning the room out when I came acrossed this book. My father is a -huge- sci-fi fantasy reader (star trek and starwars being in abundance in his home) so I was a bit perplexed as to why this book was there. I read it and instantly fell in love with the writing style and the stories. It was completely unlike anything I had ever read. Shortly after I found another book of De Lints nestled somewhere in the house and it was The Little Country. After that I have been hooked.
( So far I have read: ) Er, as you can see I am trying to read everything he's ever written. I had no idea I had read so many until looking up the booklist on his website.
I was hoping that somewhere along the line a real Word Wood would spring up and I found this community, Yay! And I've seen the website, and I was wondering if there were any future plans of making it more like it is in the books? A collection of literature and such. Perhaps it could take on a life of its own :). Anyone ever try making a physical map of newford? It might be one of those fun things to do. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| Sorting out the characters in a whole Newford story collection is a daunting act. So I just had an idea ; what about doing them story by story?
I have added a new group "Stories" to the Wordwood, so we can split the collections down and then choose a story to work on in terms of writing up the characters.
This way we can easily do a story in an evening, rather than waiting weeks before (not really ever getting round to) entering the stuff for a whole book.
Cheers, T/Librarius. | comments: 7 comments or Leave a comment |
| Dear Newford-Webbers,
The time has come: the Wordwood comes to life!
Since the great CDL hasn't replied to my email warning him of the project, I reckon he doesn't disagree too violently with our plans to create a Real Life version of the Wordwood. Heather and I have planned to give the "Web of Newford" project a home on the Internet, and since I had already registered the domain, you are ready to move in!
www.thewordwood.info is the URL (.com was already taken).
Please feel free to look around, practise editing and help make a dream come alive!
Cheers, Librarius. | comments: 8 comments or Leave a comment |

| Hey guys! Just wanted some input to make sure I have this list right. I added the Ottawa books to our list of works to be covered. What do you guys think?
The Ottawa Books Moonheart Mulengro Yarrow Jack, the Giant Killer Greenmantle Drink Down the Moon Angel of Darkness Spirit Walk Jack of Kinrowan celticknotter
Look good? Is anything wrong, or did I forget any books? Also, celticknotter, did you want to do the whole Jack series, or just the one book? | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| Hi everyone. I've just joined, and sent in a request to do The Onion Girl. At least, I think it was that one - short term memory hooray! I'm a university student, a big fan of de Lint (and a good deal more), and would love to talk to some other readers.
Here's my multi-dork question, too: I work in a music store, and music is a big part of my life. Would there ever be interest in trying to compile a list of musical references in CdL? Would there be any point? Just curious.
Hope to talk to you all soon. :) | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Just wanted to poke my nose in and say hello. I sent in an email yesterday about doing Spirits in the Wires, since I've been planning on re-reading it again soon, anyway. I can't remember the name of whomever started this group (sorry, I'm dreadful with names), but I think starting this group was a great idea, and posting the listing of the results on a website is an even better one. If you want some help with the actual coding for it, I've had some experience with html and would love to help you out with it (but I don't want to step on any toes, either).
Is there any interest for creating character lists from non-Newford books? Jack of Kinrowan is also high on my list of books to re-read soon. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
